The promise of an endless supply of clean, inexpensive, and safe energy drives the pursuit of a viable nuclear fusion reactor. Manufacturing products designed to safely perform in extreme temperatures under intense pressure requires a strict adherance to dimensional and documentary quality requirements.
The Tokamac Reactor is a Russian designed fusion reactor which uses a powerful magnetic field to mold plasma in the shape of a torus. These magnetic fields, generated by a solenoid, fuse the ions so fast that they do not have time to move apart and sustains the reaction. This technology is the basis for the ITER project, a multinational collaboration among thirty-five nations to build and operate an experimental device with the aim to bring fusion to the point where a demonstration fusion reactor can be designed. Hamill has been awarded a contract to manufacture the six independent coil packs within the upper internals of the central solenoid, the main component for plasma generation in the Tokamac Reactor.
The Spallation Neutron Source is a megawatt class accelerator-based pulsed neutron source. Neutrons are produced via high-energy spallation reactions induced by injecting protons into liquid mercury. We will be manufacturing the target that will provide the neutrons to 24 beam lines used for various testing purposes.
